Tata Steel approves plan to boost Kalinganagar capacity

India's Tata Steel said Tuesday it has approved a Rupee 235 billion ($3.67 billion) project to add 5 million mt/year of crude steel capacity at the Kalinganagar steel plant in Odisha. This will raise group steel output in India to 18 million mt/year, Tata Steel said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The greenfield plant at Kalinganagar was commissioned in May 2016, and is currently operating at 98% utilization at an existing 3 million mt/year of crude steel, Tata Steel said.
