Showa Denko completes buyout of SGL graphite electrode unit

Showa Denko has completed acquiring graphite electrode maker SGL GE Holding GmbH, based in Meitingen, Germany, the Japanese chemicals maker announced Tuesday. Showa Denko is not saying how much it paid for the company but said the former SGL GE, established in 2015, will be renamed Showa Denko Carbon Holding GmbH. To get approval of US regulators to complete the acquisition, Showa Denko had to abandon SGL GE?s US unit - SGL GE Carbon Holding LLC. The two US plants, with a combined 30,000 mt/year capacity, are being sold to Japan?s other major graphite electrode producer, Tokai Carbon, as previously reported.
