The CSA Group, a provider of testing and certification services and owner of Sira Certification Service, the UK Notified Body for the ATEX Directive, provides insight into the new requirements for ATEX that are scheduled to take effect in April 2016. According to Ian Rippin, managing director UK, CSA Group, the new ATEX requirements have caused some confusion and concern for manufacturers of equipment for explosive atmospheres. As a result the company has listed answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the new directive: (1) When do we have to use the new Directive? Although 2014/34/EU has already been published, it does not become effective until the 20th April 2016. This means that notified bodies are unable to issue certificates stating compliance with this new Directive before this date.
