Jiangsu Changzhou to curb steel output during May 28-June 30

Changzhou city, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, ordered local steel mills to curb production during May 28- June 30 in a bid to improve air quality, sources said. There are three major integrated mills in the city, with a combined crude steel capacity of about 15.59 million metric tons/year and pig iron capacity of 13.42 million mt/year. A local mill source said his mill has started production restrictions from Thursday and would finally reach a proportion of 50% to meet the environmental protection target. As a result, the amount of pig iron production capacity not utilized during May 28-June 30 would total around 811,000 mt if that's the case, S&P Global Platts calculations showed.
