Chinese shipyard deliveries fall, but new orders soar

The number of new vessels delivered by Chinese shipbuilders during January-February equated to 6.63 million deadweight tons, down by 29.2% on year, according to China's Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). Nevertheless, new orders received by the builders during January-February reached 12.29 million dwt, soaring 456% on year, the CANSI data shows. The total order backlog held by Chinese yards at end-February hit 92.89 million dwt, up 0.9% on year and by 6.5% from end-2017.
