German stockholders to wind down inventories: Survey

German distributors look set to spend February sitting on the sidelines rather than booking significant volumes, according to responses to the monthly Platts German Steel Sentiment Survey (GSSS). While the market was nearly unanimous in its expectation of further price rises, there was a clear divide when it comes to buying activity. Steelmakers' responses to the survey were bullish, with many expecting buying to be strong. But downstream players were far less confident with the sub-index for inventories (37.5) well below the 50.0 that indicates stability.
