Russian Railways lifted tariff but steel freight on the rise

Railway network operator Russian Railways (RZhD) has increased 2018 rates by 5.5% year on year for all freights including those of steel mills, a spokesman told S&P Global Platts. He noted, however, the mills do not complain and despite the increase they keep ramping up shipments: January saw a 10.5% year-on-year increase in steel by-rail freighting, with the throughput reaching 6.6 million mt.
