European hot-rolled coil imports surge in January: EUROFER

European imports of hot-rolled coil started 2020 with a surge in volumes as January imports more than doubled month on month to 687,263 mt, according to the latest data published by the European Steel Association, or Eurofer on Tuesday. Total cold-rolled coil imports rose 17% in January month on month to 189,599 mt. Compared to one year previous, imports in both HRC and CRC declined compared to January 2019, with HRC volumes 25% lower and CRC volumes 31% lower. Total HRC volumes increased from about 310,000 mt in December to about 687,000 mt in January, 121% higher month on month.
