Russia’s 2019 steel demand gains 8% on year despite weak GDP growth: Evraz

Steel demand in Russia grew 8% to reach 44.9 million mt in 2019 despite the country's moderate 1.3% GDP growth last year, Russian mining and steel company Evraz said Thursday. Consumption of long rolled steel products in Russia climbed 8% to 18.2 million mt, driven by higher construction activity amid changes in the regulations regarding financing of real estate.
