Brazilian pig iron exports to surpass 3 million mt mark in 2020

Brazil exported 1.94 million mt of pig iron from January to July, up 39.5% on year, with a monthly average surpassing the 250,000 mt, according to customs data analyzed by S&P Global Platts. This may take total shipments abroad in 2020 to above the 3 million mt mark, a volume not exported since 2012. In 2019, exports totaled 2.86 million mt. China alone has taken 882,916 mt through July, just the double of shipments to the US at 435,325 mt. Netherlands was in the third position (195,094 mt), followed by Mexico (116,959 mt) and Thailand (77,925 mt). Peru was the main destination in South America, with 71,374 mt.
