The absence of trading activity in India’s domestic market and continued uncertainty about the removal of lock-down restrictions have led to a few importers of South Korean HRC in Mumbai refraining from picking up cargoes and hoping for re-negotiation of previously concluded bookings, several sources close to the matter confirmed to S&P Global Platts Monday. As per Platts proprietary data, customers in India booked a total of 20,000 mt of SAE1006 HRC at $535/mt for March shipment from Korea’s Hyundai Steel in January through two Korean trading houses. However, the material has since been entangled in legal, logistical and re-negotiation snarls leading to the material being stranded at the Mumbai port and the mill abstaining from offering to the Indian market, sources said.
