Turkey's 7-months scrap imports hit 12 million mt despite output decline

Turkish mills' scrap bookings from their global suppliers rose notably year on year in the first seven months of 2020, despite some mills' temporary stoppages and output cuts during the second quarter of the year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Turkish mills' crude steel output fell by 2.4% to 19.4 million mt in January-July. However, as demand had a notable recovery as of July, Turkish mills have raised their scrap bookings amid expectations of a strong market in the coming months.
