Weekly US steel mill capability utilization rises to 53.8%: AISI

US raw steel capability utilization increased slightly last week, rising to 53.8% from 53.2% the previous week, according to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute on June 1. Production increased by 1.3% to 1.206 million st during the week ended May 30 from 1.191 million st in the previous week, according to the data. Last week’s production was down 35.9% compared with the same week a year earlier, when capability utilization was at 80.8% and production totaled 1.880 million st.
