Asian HRC rises as Vietnam buyers boost deals; China still uncertain

The Asian hot-rolled coil market picked up on Aug. 27, with more bookings at higher prices heard in Vietnam, while the Chinese market was still awaiting a clear market trend. S&P Global Platts assessed SS400 HRC 3 mm thick at $507/mt FOB China, stable from the previous day. On a CFR Southeast Asia basis, the same grade of coil was assessed at $518/mt, up $4/mt day on day. Eastern China based Rizhao Iron and Steel raised its offer by $5/mt to $520/mt FOB for October shipment, while offers from other mills remained stable at $520-$525/mt FOB for October to November shipment. “Heard the mill still saw some good inquiry from South America,” said a Shanghai-based trader.
