Chinese shipbuilding improves in June, expected to support steel plate prices

Chinese shipbuilders received new orders equating to 12.47 million dwt, up 3.4% year on year, during the first six months of 2020, according to data from China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry, or CANSI, with the rise expected to support ship plate prices. The total order backlog held by Chinese yards at the end of June reached 76.54 million dwt, down 6.3% year on year, the CANSI data released July 17 showed. Chinese shipbuilders delivered 17.58 million dwt of new ships during H1 2020, which fell 10.6% year on year.
