US steel coil market balancing tight availability, limited buying appetite

The US coil market was balancing tighter availability form mills Friday with a suppressed buying appetite following last week’s price hikes. The daily Platts TSI US HRC index was unchanged at $587/st, while the daily Platts TSI US cold-rolled coil index dropped $8/st to $752/st. Most buy-side sources indicated that limited mill availability for HRC in April. The supply crunch was stemming from planned maintenance at multiple mills in April, according to buyers. However, mills were also citing strong HRC order books in discussions with buyers.
