Latin American steel consumption falls 5% in 2019: Alacero

Latin American finished steel consumption declined by 5% in 2019 to 64.2 million mt, down from 67.6 million mt in 2018, regional steel organization Alacero said Tuesday. According to the group, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil accounted for 87% of the reduction. “Among the main reasons for this situation are the global economic slowdown, lower commodities prices, US trade disputes with its partners, the decrease of world trade and political uncertainties and their effects on investment facing these countries and their neighbors in Latin America,” Alacero said in a statement.
