Evraz Q3 steel sales drop 10% on year; met coal, iron ore sales jump

Mining and steel manufacturer Evraz said Oct. 29 that steel sales in the third quarter fell almost 10% both quarter on quarter and year on year, while coking coal and iron ore sales rose as the company ramped up exports to regions where steel capacity utilization rates were on the rise and captured additional demand in Russia. In the same period, Evraz's steel output fell 4.4% both quarter on quarter and year on year to 3.2 million mt, with the decline attributed to the planned shutdown of blast furnace No. 5 and the concurrent restart of relined BF No. 6 at the Urals-based Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works.
