Chinese plate export prices rise strongly in May on strong domestic market

Export prices of Chinese heavy plates rose substantially month on month in May, as offering level moved higher in line with strong domestic market prices although overseas buying remained sluggish. S&P Global Platts assessed Q235 grade, 12-20 mm thick plate at $455/mt FOB China on May 27, up $18/mt on the month. Domestic prices of the same-grade material were assessed at Yuan 3,650/mt ($510/mt) ex-stock Shanghai, including value-added tax, up Yuan 175/mt from last month.
