Turkish mills' Q1 scrap imports up sharply

Turkish mills' scrap bookings from their global suppliers rose sharply year on year in the first quarter, in line with the on-year rise seen in Turkish mills crude steel output. According to the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data sent to S&P Global Platts Thursday, Turkish mills' imports of ferrous scrap reached 5.27 million mt in January-March, significantly higher than 3.89 million mt imported in the same period of 2019. The US remained Turkey's largest scrap supplier in Q1 at 984,000 mt, 250,000 mt higher than in the same period the previous year.
