Iran's six-months steel imports decrease 60% year on year

About 229,000 metric tons of finished and semi-finished steel were imported by Iranian traders during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept 22), a 60% year-on-year decrease, according to a report recently published by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA). Finished steel imports included 49,000 mt of longs and 178,000 mt of flats. The biggest import -- cold- rolled coil -- saw 59,000 mt shipped into the country, down 66% on year. There were some 32,000 mt of hot-rolled coil imported (down 77% on year) and 87,000 mt of coated strips (down 43%). In the six- months period, imports of semi-finished products were reported as only 2,000 mt by ISPA.
