How to evaluate a child with chest pain

Chest pain is relatively common in children. In contrast to that in adults, it is rarely cardiac in origin. The evaluation of a child with chest pain rests mainly on the history and clinical examination; routine investigations are often unnecessary. The two main questions are whether the pain is cardiac in origin and whether there is an organic cause of the pain.
