Brazil asking EU, WTO for steel safeguards compensation

The Brazilian government said Monday it has submitted a request to the European Unionfor compensation for safeguards on steel imports imposed by the latter earlier this month.A combined statement from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy, Agriculture,Livestock and Food Supply also said the Brazilian government sent the World TradeAssociation (WTO) a notification that “Brazil, under the Safeguards Agreement, could takemeasures to rebalance its trade with the EU, given the impact of the safeguard measuresin the steel sector."
