US plate prices yet to rebound after mills' price hikes as December availability lingers

US plate prices were yet to rebound Wednesday following price increase announcements by domestic mills last week. The daily Platts TSI US plate index was up by $1.50 on the day to $625/st on a delivered basis, but were down by $6.25/st from last Wednesday. “We are pushing the price but definitely losing some opportunities as others are taking advantage of year-end deals,” one mill source said. “I would estimate the price moves up once the year-end deals are over and lead times move to January.”
