Turkey's semis imports fall, billet prices slump

The year-on-year declining trend seen in Turkish mills' semi-finished steel importsthroughout the first half continued into July, amid weak domestic finished steel demand,particularly for long products and global market slackness. This sentiment has continued topull down Turkish steel output and prices.According to the latest Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD) data, Turkish mills'July crude steel output was down by 10.6% year on year to 2.9 million mt. Turkish EAF-based mills' July output fell by 7.1% on year, amid the ongoing crisis in the constructionsector, while integrated mill output was down more sharply, by 18.3%.
