Turkey's semi-finished steel import volumes slump, billet prices firm

Turkey's imports of semi-finished steel slumped to 2.35 million mt in the year to September, down from 3.93 million mt in the same period of 2018, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data. Industry sources said the sharp year-on-year decline in semi-finished steel volumes was down to weak domestic finished steel demand in Turkey, particularly for long products, which has also put pressure on finished product prices.
