Spot prices for Indian iron ore exports to China have firmed up by $2-3/tonne over the past week, driven by sustained Chinese buying and limited ore supplies from India. Marketparticipants are optimistic about China's steel market prospects in August-September. The recent strengthening of the Chinese yuan versus the US dollar is providing further impetus toimports.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase. Uruguay is a net exporter of primary products and a net importer of oil.
