Modal dispersion effects on the spectra of helical long-period fibre grating-based components

摘要

It is generally known that the modal dispersions in helical long-period fibre grating (HLPG) strongly affect the grating's spectrum. However, quantitatively evaluating the types of effects on the spectral characteristics of HLPG-based components has seldom been accomplished to date. In this paper, a simple quantification method to evaluate these types of dispersion effects on HLPG-based components is proposed and demonstrated both numerically and experimentally. The theoretical predictions agree with the experimental results, demonstrating the validity and usefulness of the proposed method.
