Ten candidates of microsatellite loci were isolated from a small insert genomic DNA library of yellowfin black seabream (Acanthopagrus latus). Polymorphism of the 10 loci were screened by the wild individuals (n = 24) from Hiroshima Bay, Western Japan. The number of alleles per locus varied from 10 to 26 and the observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.75 to 1.00. No linkage disequilibrium between pairs of loci was detected. Genotypic proportions conformed to Hardy–Weinberg expectations for all but three of the loci. However, after Bonferoni correction, all loci were conformed to Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. All ten novel microsatellite loci will be suitable to maintain the genetic structure of A. latus.
