Exxon Mobil is considering plans to build an LNG import terminal on Australia’s east coast, joining a host of other companies looking to supply LNG to the country to take advantage of looming gas supply shortages. The US major is one of the biggest offshore producers in southeastern Australia as part of the Gippsland Basin joint venture, but its gas fields are in decline.
