An Ontario court has blocked an attempt to collect a $9.5 billion Ecuadorian legal judgement from Chevron’s Canadian subsidiary, marking another win for the US supermajor in its decades-long legal battle with Amazonian indigenous groups that claim the company polluted their land. The Court of Appeal for Ontario upheld a lower court ruling that determined that Chevron Canada could not be held liable for the judgment against Chevron because they were two separate corporate entities (OD Jan.23’17).
