BP Halts Nova Scotia Drilling After Mud Spill

BP has halted drilling offshore Nova Scotia after the release of about 136 cubic meters (855 barrels) of drilling mud while spinning the bit on an exploration well in deep waters in the Scotian Basin. The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) said the company had reported an “unauthorized discharge” of mud last week after an apparent mechanical failure of a piping system about 30 meters below sea level.
