BLM Defends Freezing Methane Controls

The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is defending its rule temporarily freezing Obama-era requirements for capturing methane emissions from oil and gas operations on public lands. In the latest court filing over its Dec. 8 rule delaying methane requirements for one year while the bureau revisits the 2016 regulation, the BLM argues the rule is a “temporary and common sense solution.” Freezing the rule’s more onerous components is necessary to guard against oil and gas operators having to comply with requirements the Trump administration is looking to scrap, the filing says.
