A tanker carrying crude oil from Venezuela has been seized in the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao, multiple traders and tanker trackers confirmed. The Proteo, a Panamanian flagged Aframax tanker, loaded some $20.5 million worth of heavy, sour crude at PDV's terminal in Curacao before authorities prevented it from leaving in the middle of last week, sources familiar with the matter told Oil Daily. “The seizure was for nonpayment of debt,” one source said, adding that while ownership of the tanker itself is not contested, the oil is.
