Chevron, Total Permit Next Deepwater US Gulf Well

US major Chevron and its partner, French major Total, have permitted a new deepwater wildcat well in the US Gulf of Mexico, the second probe in an exploration pact signed by the firms last year. The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) approved Chevron's permit in late December to drill a prospect called Twickenham in Mississippi Canyon Block 610. The permit calls for a spud date in the middle of next month. Twickenham will be a follow-up to the duo's Ballymore wildcat, which hit total depth late last month after some delays, sources said.
