Exxon, Oil Search Add to PNG Gas Resources

Exxon Mobil and its partner in Papua New Guinea (PNG), Oil Search, have announced a new onshore gas discovery they say will help underpin the expansion of planned LNG projects in PNG. The P'nyang South 2 well in license PRL 3 was drilled to a depth of 2,725 meters by Oil Search (38.5% interest) on behalf of the joint venture partners Exxon (49% operator) and JX Nippon, which has a 12.5% license stake. The well encountered gas in good-quality sands, the firms said. The partners are now evaluating the results and assessing the P'nyang field's potential resources and development.
