SM Energy has agreed to sell its nonoperated South Texas Eagle Ford Shale assets, with an eye toward ramping up investment on its acreage in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico. The Denver-based independent is selling the assets to a subsidiary of Venado Oil and Gas, a privately held firm backed by KKR, for $800 million.
