Ecopetrol Sees Launch of Shale Pilots Next Year

Colombia’s state-controlled Ecopetrol expects to launch two long-delayed shale pilots by the end of next year, the firm disclosed Wednesday during a quarterly results call. Ecopetrol and other oil producers, including US major ConocoPhillips, have sought for years to carry out such pilots, but public opposition to fracking has led the government to withhold unconventional drilling permits. However, Ecopetrol said Wednesday that a ruling last month in favor of the pilots by Colombia’s Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, should move things forward.
