Hours after Iran shot down a US surveillance drone just outside the strategic Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump appeared to try to give room to relax tensions with Tehran (related). "I think, probably, Iran made a mistake,” he told reporters Thursday. “I would imagine it was a general or somebody that made a mistake in shooting that drone down.” Still, Trump said that the downing of the drone was a “new wrinkle” when it came to his policy of winding down US military action in the Mideast Gulf. “This country will not stand for it, that I can tell you.”
