Ottawa Asked to Step In on Alberta Monitoring Feud

First Nations and conservation groups in Alberta are asking Canada’s federal government to step in to force the province to restart environmental monitoring of oil and gas operations after a controversial decision to indefinitely suspend the practice. A dozen signatories sent a letter to federal Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson asking him to force Alberta to reinstate the monitoring of air, soil and water near oil sands operations, according to a Canadian Press report.
