Majors Reach for Recruitment Slowdowns, Layoffs

The oil price collapse has forced the already-lean Western majors to find ways to cut costs further. And while capital budgets have borne the biggest brunt of those reductions, recruitment and, in some cases, headcounts are also taking a hit. Chevron is leading the charge with a 10%-15% reduction in its global workforce, a spokeswoman told Energy Intelligence, confirming previous Reuters reports. The cuts come as the US major reduces spending by 30% this year, largely in the short-cycle US onshore, and following a wider reorganization launched in December (OD May15’20).
