A plan by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to ban fossil fuels in the city — including using natural gas in new buildings — is being called “bad climate policy” by the state's power industry. In his State of the City address, de Blasio outlined a future that calls for an offshore wind hub, a doubling of solar power and making all city vehicles electric. The mayor said he would like to see his energy plan — including the natural gas ban and buying power from Hydro Quebec — in place by 2040.
