Hess Hires VLCCs to Store Bakken Crude

US independent Hess said it has chartered three very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to store oil it produces in the Bakken tight oil play over the next three months, with sales planned in the fourth quarter of the year. The floating storage plan will enable Hess to continue producing in the Bakken this year with only a relatively small reduction from the 190,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day the company averaged in the basin during the first quarter, prior to the collapse in global crude prices (OD Apr.24’20).
