EU Could Waste Billions on Surplus Gas Projects

The EU could waste “tens of billions of euros” of investment in natural gas infrastructure projects, as the bloc's existing gas system is sufficient to meet demand through 2030, a new report says. The report, penned by consultancy Artelys on behalf of the European Climate Foundation, comes ahead of a vote on Wednesday by the European Parliament's energy committee on whether to approve funding for a host of gas infrastructure schemes. The European Commission's fourth list of so-called Projects of Common Interest (PCI) includes 32 such schemes.
