As US President Donald Trump prepares to meet with oil company executives on ways to address the energy market crisis brought on by the coronavirus and the price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia, industry remains divided on what — and whether — Washington should do anything about it. Trump’s recognition of the problems industry is facing is a shift for him. He has traditionally advocated to keep oil prices as low as possible, and even Wednesday — when he said the “oil industry is being ravaged” — called low gasoline prices “a massive tax cut to the people of our country.”
