Rough Seas Hamper Blowout Response

Heavy seas are preventing crews from boarding a natural gas platform three miles off the coast of Padre Island, Texas, following a well blow-out on Tuesday. A US Coast Guard spokeswoman in Corpus Christi, Texas, told Energy Intelligence that the well, owned by Houston-based Magellan E&P Holdings, was only venting about 5% of what it had been releasing Tuesday after the initial blowout occurred. She said an evaluation from an aerial survey suggests that sand may be blocking the well and reducing the amount of gas and condensate being vented.
