A macroporous poly(glycidyl methacrylate-triallyl isocyanurate-divinylbenzene) resin was synthesized with cyclohexanol and dodeanol as porogenic solvents, and modified with diethylamine to yield an anion-exchanger suitable for protein adsorption. The molar fraction of cyclohexanol in the porogenic mixture has been found to have significant influences on the adsorption capacity of the resultant anion-exchanger. At a molar fraction of 0.75, most pores in the resin were in the range of 30-140 nm, which ensured both large binding surface and low resistance to intraparticle diffusion of proteins. Batch adsorption of bovine serum albumin to the anion-exchanger resulted in a saturation capacity of 104 mg/ml resin and an effective diffusivity of 9.7 X 10~(-2) ~2/s, which were comparable to or higher than those of commercial ion exchangers.
