Crunch time is looming for Kazakhstan to choose an option to increase oil production from its giant offshore Kashagan field to a new target of 500,000 barrels per day in the next two to three years, Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev tells Energy Intelligence. He said the government was leaning toward selecting a solution by the end of the year that would increase gas sales to China, further expanding Kazakhstan’s role as a significant oil and gas exporter on the world stage.
