Rosneft officials have said they are confident that huge payments made to Venezuela and Iraqi Kurdistan - $6.5 billion and $2.1 billion, respectively - for future oil supplies and other assets will not be lost. During a teleconference with investors this week on the company's 2017 financial results, Rosneft's vice president for refining, petrochemical, commerce and logistics, Didier Casimiro, referred to payments to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) as "a form of security under the pipeline concession agreement" signed last October. Under that document, the Russian major is to set up a joint venture with Kurdish Kar Group to operate the oil pipeline running to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
