Nord Stream 2 Warns of Large Delay Cost

The Nord Stream 2 company admit- ted last week that a several month- long delay could lead to additional costs of several hundred million eu- ros for the €9.5 billion ($10.6 bil- lion) gas pipeline project. The Gazprom-led 55 Bcm/yr pipeline from Russia to Germany is scheduled for launch in late 2019 but could be delayed by a slow ap- proval process in Denmark, the only country along the pipeline’s route in the Baltic Sea that hasn’t yet issued a construction permit. Many observers believe that Copenhagen, under US pressure, wants to force Moscow to agree to a new long-term transit deal with Ukraine (NC Aug.1’19).
